UPDATES:

I. Summer plans:

Drawing:
Proposals were discussed for a summer drawing project and/or event(s) at the 26th May meeting, such as, … we might select a location to visit (either collectively or individually) and draw-in-response (anything, not necessarily landscape or representation …just while at this place.) Sara Parsons has a studio/gallery space near to Cheddar and has graciously offered/suggested that we could collectively display/discuss view the results later in the summer!

II. Other/Ongoing:
Blog: Wendy Rhodes offered to set up a blog so we can be kept up-to-date, share ideas, etc. (in a more efficient way than waiting for me to type up another one of these newsletters!?)

ACiD Web page: I will set-up a meeting with Ivan Eastwood to see what can be updated on ACiD’s web page. This includes images and profiles of associates. If you’ve been an active member and wish to be included – please send some high-resolution images and written info (nothing I need to edit please!!!) to [email protected]. You can look at examples on the current ACiD web page to give you an idea of what is needed.

Writing: With a website and/or blog…we might look to embark on writing projects…a fledgling online journal around drawing. Input/ideas are welcome…

Drawing Research: I've had a number of contacts from other PhD drawing researchers around the UK. Let’s look at ways to encourage links and create resources & exchanges….Conferences, writing projects, etc?? Suggestions most welcome!!!

Other ideas/suggestions are invited…We can - by our collective initiative – take this group into any number of ventures and projects.

III. Travels/Exchanges/Residencies, etc.

Field trips:

1.     Vyom Art Centre, Jaipur, India : Jaipur/Vyom Centre does not have adequate numbers to go ahead as group trip in 2012. SORRY!

2.     Drawing Now/ Salon du dessin contemporain Paris 2012   We still plan to look at possibility of attending as presenters in March 2012 – once that information becomes available.

3.     Bergen exchange/January 2012 Vicki Kaye is the PG liaison for this project, and planning continues and updates are forthcoming!

lV. Invited Artists Events &/or Speakers:

I met with John and we are committed to have three speakers for autumn term…

Projected Scheduling Autumn 2011:
The plan is to begin with Prof. Petherbridge sometime in later October(?) and then monthly guest speakers for the autumn term – Andrew Hewish (C4RD) – and either Claude Heath or Grenville Davey – depending on their availability. We offer a small stipend plus travel expenses.
These lectures will be open to all members of the Bower Ashton community.

Individual ACiD PG members have agreed to “buddy” with an individual artist (see below) – to liaise, correspond, answer questions, host when he/she arrives at Bower Ashton, promote/arrange poster, and introduce at lecture…and/or also take responsibility for delegating any of these tasks (The “buddies” also comprise an informal/ad hoc organizing committee for Visiting Speakers series.)

Invitees who have accepted are:

o   Deanna Petherbridge, CBE, UWE Emeritus Professor, 1st Arnolfini Professor in Drawing. (http://www.deannapetherbridge.com/) (LYNN IMPERATORE)

o   Andrew Hewish, Director Centre for Recent Drawing, (http://www.c4rd.org.uk/C4RD/Centre_for_Recent_Drawing.html) (VICKI KAYE)
